As well as being a Coach – I spend a great deal of my time writing software.

A few years ago I was in a conflict around these two careers. I have spent 30+ years in the Engineering game and had a lot of fun and success. In 2013 I spent a year training as a Life Coach, and then another two years in further leadership training. If I was to pursue that track further – I would need to commit to Coaching full-time. I shared my thoughts with Coaches and with people I had encountered through my Engineering work. It did not really help – it was a heart-decision I needed to come to myself.

I chose to stop struggling and accept that I was a Coach and an Engineer, and see where that took me. The result is I get to play in both camps at a high level, and by keeping the Engineering I have avoided what would probably be a very nasty Sudoku addiction.

This weekend I had an inspiration. To start blogging about writing Software as well as about the world of Coaching. One of the things that drew me to coaching in the first place was the realization that most technical problems I met in team environments were actually human-interaction problems in disguise. So I am hoping that in this thread of my writings I can play in this area further and explore the encounter between the technical and the human. I hope that it may be of use to engineers, developers and humans of all kinds…

In my engineering work I am an independent consultant. I have a number of clients that I have developed long-term relationships with as well as those that show up to get a particular problem solved. I will be keeping their confidences. The experiences that I have with current and former clients has informed a lot of who I am as a developer and a human being. I am proud of the relationships I have built and enjoy a level of trust that has been built through hard, diligent work and bringing my humanity forwards. I think there is some gold here to share.
